TRUSSVILLE — Cahaba Elementary School will soon have a new principal, just the second in school history. Superintendent Patrick Martin announced his choice on Monday morning and the name will be familiar to many in the community.
“Trussville City Schools is pleased to announce the selection of Mrs. Jennifer Bruno as Cahaba Elementary School’s next principal, bringing energy, experience, and a passion for student success to continue Cahaba Elementary’s strong tradition of excellence,” Martin said. “Mrs. Bruno’s experience reflects her commitment to supporting students, staff, and families, building meaningful relationships, celebrating successes, and creating a welcoming environment for the entire Cahaba Elementary family.”
Cahaba, along with Paine Elementary and Magnolia Elementary, are among the mostly highly rated elementary schools in Alabama. Joy Tyner has led the Cahaba faculty since the school opened. She will retire at the end of the school year.
Martin said, pending Monday night’s Board approval, Bruno will begin serving as principal at Cahaba Elementary in July 2026. She has 27 years of experience in education and she is currently the Theatre Arts Teacher at Hewitt-Trussville Middle School.
“Mrs. Bruno has been a long-time staple in Trussville City Schools, where she has held teaching positions in third grade at Hewitt Elementary, second grade at Paine Primary School, and has spent the last ten years at Hewitt-Trussville Middle School in her current role,” Martin said. “Prior to her time in Trussville, she also taught three years in third grade at Leeds Elementary School. Jennifer is known for her tireless work ethic, her commitment to collaboration, and her vision of instilling curiosity and a love of learning in all students so they continue to grow far beyond the classroom.”
Bruno holds a Class A Certificate in Instructional Leadership from Samford University, a Master of Arts in Elementary Education from Samford University, and a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from the University of Montevallo. During her tenure in Trussville City Schools, she has been named District Teacher of the Year by the Trussville City Schools Foundation (2024), TCS Secondary Teacher of the Year (2019), and Hewitt-Trussville Middle School Teacher of the Year (2019).
