PINSON, Ala. — The Pinson City Council recently approved incorporating an app by CivicPlus that sends notifications on various happenings to citizens.
“It’s a system that if you have Facebook, Twitter (or X), if you have Instagram, iPhone, Android, flip phone, email, voice mail, it should hit everybody,” said Councilor Dawn Tanner, explaining that the city can send residents notices and alerts on incidents such as downed trees on roads.
The app is versatile, being able to “target” certain areas and people, said Director of Operations Eric Winfrey. An example would be the city being able to send notifications to a specific neighborhood in case of a road closure or communicating with a specific city department. Citizens will also be able to select what kind of notifications they can receive.
“The more we communicate the more knowledge that they have,” he said. “The more knowledge we have the more we can interact with the public.”
The agreement with CivicPlus was approved at a meeting of the city council on Thursday night for an initial charge of $5,755 with an annual payment of $4,600.
