TRUSSVILLE — A Hewitt-Trussville High School graduate has landed an NFL radio job.
J.P. Shadrick was named Tuesday as the new play-by-play voice of the Arizona Cardinals, succeeding longtime broadcaster Dave Pasch, who called Cardinals games for 24 seasons before signing with ESPN.
Shadrick joins analyst A.Q. Shipley and first-year sideline reporter Dani Sureck on Arizona’s radio broadcast team.
The Tribuneland native has spent more than two decades building a broadcasting career that includes national college football and NFL assignments with Westwood One, as well as 14 seasons in a variety of media roles with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
A graduate of the University of Alabama, Shadrick studied sports broadcasting and gained early experience working with CBS Sports during college football weekends in Tuscaloosa.
His path to the NFL included play-by-play stops in collegiate summer baseball and the minor leagues before opportunities in football led to national broadcasts with the Touchdown Radio Network and later Westwood One.
“Dave Pasch is one of the great voices in our game, and I appreciate the high standard that he left behind,” Shadrick said. “I’m eager to work toward matching that but also take it further in my own style. I’m fired up to work with A.Q. Shipley too. His great personality combined with his in-depth knowledge of the game in all aspects makes him a top-tier analyst.”
Shadrick also credited the Jaguars organization for supporting his pursuit of play-by-play opportunities throughout his career.
“They were really fair about adjusting schedules where necessary and giving me a chance to grow,” Shadrick said. “They were nothing but gracious.”
