LEEDS, Ala. — Will Leeds get a tattoo shop in the future? The Leeds City Council is considering it.
At a meeting on Monday night the council heard from an individual about possibly allowing for him to establish a tattoo shop in a building on 1625 Ashville Road.
David Strickland spoke briefly at the previous meeting and was invited to make his case on Monday night where he said that he was the owner of Lucky Dog Tattoo Co. and had taken the necessary steps with the realtor but needed to speak with the council.
Strickland said that he started a petition that had garnered almost 200 signatures at the time of the meeting. If permitted to be established the shop will have five artists, including Strickland himself.
The shop would have the potential to bring $350,000 to $500,000 in gross annual revenue, he estimated.
“Do I think I’ll necessarily hit that highest amount? No,” he said. “I would love to; it would be great. However, people do come in and they’re willing to spend at local coffee shops, gas stations, small restaurants, different things like that, so there’s more income coming in than just the tattoo shop itself.”
Mayor Eddie Moore stated that the council will discuss it among themselves and address it at a future meeting.
