BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has revealed the name of the man killed in an officer-involved shooting outside UAB St. Vincent’s last week.
38-year-old Matthew Sean Massey, of Birmingham, was shot during an encounter with Birmingham police at 810 St. Vincent’s Drive on Aug. 13.
The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. Massey was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:51 p.m.
Birmingham police previously said the officers were investigating a reported incident on the 2700 block of University Boulevard when the shooting took place.
The death is being investigated as a homicide.
Birmingham police have yet to release further details about what led to the shooting or identify the officer involved.
