SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. — The former Alabama sportswriter Robert “Aaron” Suttles is back in custody at the Shelby County Jail after a judge revoked his bond in a prostitution solicitation case.
49-year-old Suttles, of Hoover, was arrested on July 23 during an operation by the Shelby County Drug Task Force and charged with solicitation of prostitution.
Two days after receiving the charges and being let out on a $1,000 bond, Homewood police arrested Suttles on a DUI charge, according to court documents.
One condition of Suttles’ bond was that he not commit another crime.
Prosecutors asked the court to revoke his bond on Aug. 13. The request was granted Tuesday, Aug. 18. Suttles is now being held without bond.
Suttles’ attorney, Thomas Spina, said he received word of the order Thursday and instructed Suttles to turn himself in. According to the filing, Suttles surrendered to the Shelby County Jail within hours.
Spina is asking the court to reinstate Suttles’ original bond or impose other conditions that would permit his release.
Suttles originally covered University of Alabama football for The Tuscaloosa News and later covered Alabama and the SEC for The Athletic, a subsidiary of The New York Times.
He also served as content director for Yea Alabama, the University of Alabama’s official NIL entity and fan organization. Yea Alabama suspended Suttles following his initial arrest and clarified that his arrest was not connected to the business.
