ST. CLAIR COUNTY — A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 involving two pedestrians occurred at approximately 12:02 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, and has claimed the life of a Georgia man, according to Chief Jeremy J. Burkett, Administrative Bureau Director for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency
Jose Daniel Hernandez Reyes, 21, of Lithia Springs, Ga., who was one of the pedestrians, was fatally injured while standing in the roadway after being struck by the 2025 Toyota Camry driven by a Georgia man.
After striking Reyes, the Camry then struck a 2014 Nissan Sentra that was unoccupied and sitting stationary in the roadway.
“After striking the Sentra, the Camry then struck the second pedestrian, Jennisfer Vanessa Vasquez, 22, of Litha Springs, Ga.,” Burkett said. “Both Reyes and Vasquez were involved in a previous crash and had exited their vehicle before being struck. Reyes was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Vasquez was also injured and was transported to the UAB Hospital in Birmingham for medical treatment.
The crash occurred on I-20 near the 152 mile marker, within the Cook Springs city limits, in St. Clair County.
