TRUSSVILLE — Paving on Edwards Lake Road will begin Monday, Oct. 12, earlier than Jefferson County first announced.
The county said Friday that the contractor will start that day on the stretch from Springville Road to U.S. Highway 11, about 2.6 miles, a corridor that runs toward Trussville. Drivers should expect intermittent lane closures, traffic delays and temporary changes in traffic patterns.
The work is part of the county’s 2026 contract resurfacing project. Crews will install new pavement and striping along the road. In cooperation with the city of Birmingham, the existing center lane will be removed and 6-foot-wide shoulders will be added at strategic locations to improve safety and traffic flow, the county said.
Construction signs and milling operations will mark the start of the work. Motorists are asked to use caution, obey construction signs and allow extra travel time.
A county notice posted Sept. 9 had put the Edwards Lake Road work at the end of October or early November, after resurfacing on South Shades Crest Road. Friday’s update moved the start to Oct. 12.
