TRUSSVILLE, Ala. — Trussville Police Chief Dave Morrette spoke at a meeting of the Trussville Daybreak Rotary Club where he gave an update on the department’s operations and initiatives.
A press release from the club said that he talked of patrol, traffic enforcement, investigations, jail operations, training and the School Resource Officer (SRO) program, as well as recruiting, training and retaining officers.
“School safety was an important focus of the presentation,” said the press release. “Morrette explained that the department utilizes retired, certified law enforcement officers who work 187 school days while students are in school and are off in June and July. These officers maintain required certification and training while bringing years of experience and established relationships with Trussville families back into the schools.”
He also talked about the K-9 program and mentioned that two K-9s retired. There is now one in the department but another is set to join with the help of grant funding.
Morrette’s presentation ended with an overview of Flock cameras and argued about their use in investigations, citing an arrest for an assault case in which a vehicle’s tag number was tracked by a Flock camera.
The Trussville Daybreak Rotary Club meets at First Baptist Church Trussville on Wednesday mornings at 7 a.m.
