BIRMINGHAM — A homicide investigation is underway after Birmingham Police said a man experiencing car trouble was shot and killed early Monday morning.
The man’s body was discovered on Monday, March 2, at approximately 1:14 a.m., according to Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin. The identity of the victim will be released upon notification of next of kin.
“The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was having car trouble and exited his vehicle,” Mauldin said. “The suspect drove up in an unknown vehicle and a brief exchange of words occurred before the suspect opened fire shooting the victim.”
Officers from the West Precinct responded to a shot spotter call and citizens’ complaints of gunfire at Valley Road and Court I, according to Mauldin.
Upon arrival officers discovered the victim laying on the ground outside of his vehicle unresponsive suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue along with Jefferson County Coroner arrived and pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.
“There are no suspects in custody,” Mauldin said. “A motive has not been established in this homicide investigation. This is an ongoing investigation and additional details will be provided as they come available.”
