BIRMINGHAM — A Birmingham man has been killed following a shooting that took place in the early-morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 20.
According to a report from the Jefferson County Coroners Office, Melvin Earl Nelson, 59, of Birmingham, was found to have sustained a gunshot wound injury during a reported assault. The incident took place in the 300 block of 72nd Street North in Birmingham at approximately 2:32 a.m. Sunday morning.
The 59-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:56 a.m.
