OHATCHEE — Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade said several people are trapped in homes after a suspected tornado came through the area. At least three people are dead but there could be more, according to the sheriff.
Wade also said multiple structures were destroyed and search and rescue operations are underway in Ohatchee.
Wade said what was likely a tornado ripped through the county, diagonally.
The city of Oxford is assisting the county by sending police, public works, fire and EMA units to Ohatchee.
There have been reports of damage in Wellington and Roy Webb Road areas, as well, according to the Calhoun County EMA. The EMA is asking people to avoid these areas.
