HOOVER — In the AHSAA Decathlon Championships, Ethan Womack of Hewitt-Trussville closed strong by clearing 14 feet, 5¼ inches to finish tied for second in the pole vault.
His 137-08 javelin throw was second and his 4:30.59 time in the 1,500 meters was second. He accumulated 3,286 points Tuesday to claim the 2022 state title with 6,490 points.
Runner-up Anthony Eager of McGill-Toolen Catholic was second overall with 5,631 points in the 10 events and trailed Eager by 859 points.
Winfield’s Seth Kemble won the javelin throw competition with a 145-08 throw. Helena’s Caden Blackman won the 1,500 race with a time of 4:28.02. Thompson’s Gavin Horton finished eighth over all picking up 775 point for winning the pole vault clearing 14-11.
Hewitt-Trussville’s Daniel James of Hewitt-Trussville tied his teammate Womack for second in the pole vault by also clearing 14-05¼. No other competitors cleared 14 feet.
Womack beat out teammate Jaggerd Moore, who had entered the day in second place.
Moore, who amassed 3,398 points Monday, won the long jump (21-07.25) and high jump (6-05.5).
