Benjamin Henry Whitten, 87, passed away on May 21, 2022, in Birmingham.
Ben Whitten was born on June 25, 1934, in Webb, Alabama, to Curtis David Whitten and Nora Lee Whitten. Benjamin graduated from Columbia High school in 1953 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama in 1964. Benjamin also served in the Army from 1954 to 1957. He started his career with the Internal Revenue Service and continued to serve for 36 years. Benjamin married Janice Cotton Whitten on December 21, 1956, in Dothan, Alabama. The couple had two children, Emily McDaniel, of Trussville and Amy Trautwein of Trussville.
Benjamin is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Janice Cotton Whitten; daughters, Emily McDaniel (Randy) of Trussville AL and Amy Trautwein (Rob) of Trussville AL; grandchildren, Sarah Moran (JR), Austin McDaniel (Baylie), Chad Trautwein (Emily), Chase Trautwein; great-grandchildren, Katie Grace Moran, Whitten Randle Moran, Hudson, Hayes and Houston Trautwein.
Benjamin was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis David Whitten and Nora Lee Whitten, brother, Curtis Whitten of Dothan, Alabama, and his sister, Helen Whitten Buie of Webb, Alabama.
The service for Mr. Benjamin Whitten will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. The visitation for Benjamin will be held one hour prior to the service. The burial will immediately follow the chapel service at Jefferson Memorial adjoining cemetery. Pastor Ryan Whitley will preside over the services. Memorial donations can be made in Benjamin’s name to Big Oak Ranch, Baptist Children’s Home, or The Alzheimer’s Foundation.
