TRUSSVILLE – Hewitt hosted 4A, 6A and 7A Sectionals this past weekend. The Huskies qualified 48 athletes for the State Championship in Gulf Shores later this week.
“We have the toughest section in the state, and coming away with a 2nd place finish behind Hoover in both divisions is a significant accomplishment,” said head coach Tom Esslinger. “I am confident we will be in the mix to win a trophy at the State Championships in Gulf Shores, but we are going to take it all one event at a time and just focus on the details of what we have to do in each moment.”
DJ Carter, Brianna Beckham, Tor Mack, and the boys 4×100 Meter Relay team (Nathan Thomas, Malachi Johnson, Jadon Loving and Michael Igbinoghene) came away from the meet as Sectional Champions.
“As coaches, we are all really excited to see our athletes step up and encourage one another,” said Ellinger.
