IRONDALE – The Shades Valley Lady Mounties clinched the Area 10 regular season championship last Friday with a 60-26 win over Woodlawn. Valley finished 6-0 in area play.
The Lady Mounties are 12-12 and have won seven straight games.
“Our season started off a little rough,” said head coach Gary Ferguson. “Most of our opponents were in the championship game, Final Four, or Elite 8 on last year.”
“We lost several close games,” he said. “We hoped that our tough schedule would have us prepared for our area games.”
“This is our second year in a row that we have finished number one in area play,” Ferguson said. “We will host the Area tournament at Shades Valley again this year.”
Senior Angela Williams was honored Friday night for scoring 1,500 points in her career. She scored her 1,500th point against Theodore on December 19.
“Angela, who committed to James Madison, has scored 1,650 points in her high school career and, in my opinion, is arguably the best girl player in the state.”
Williams is averaging 19 points per game, three steals per game, ten rebounds per game, two blocks per game, and five assists per game.
The Lady Mounties look to get another win tonight at home against Center Point before heading into the area tournament.
“We must see it, we must have a vision of what we want the outcome to be,” Ferguson said.
Thas been the theme of the team this year.
