MONTGOMERY — An explosive device was detonated outside of the Alabama Attorney General’s Office in Montgomery early Saturday morning, according to a statement released Monday by Attorney General Steve Marshall’s office.
“In the early hours of Saturday, February 24, an explosive device was detonated outside of the Alabama Attorney General’s Office building in Montgomery,” Marshall said. “Thankfully, no staff or personnel were injured by the explosion.”
Marshall did not offer any details about the type of device used or damage caused by the explosion.
“The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will be leading the investigation, and we are urging anyone with information to contact them immediately,” Marshall said.
On Monday, Feb. 26, at approximately 8:19 a.m., Special Agents with the ALEA State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) received notification of a suspicious package near the intersection of Washington Avenue and South Bainbridge Street in Montgomery, according to Sgt. Jeremy Burkett of ALEA.
“It was determined that the suspicious package was an explosive device that was detonated in the early morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 24,” Burkett said. “No injuries or damage to nearby buildings have been reported.”

Troopers assigned to ALEA’s Protective Services Division and Special Agents assigned to Hazardous Device Unit (HDU), along with Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Officers from Montgomery Police Department, responded to the scene and deemed the area safe.
No further information is available as the investigation remains ongoing.
