JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 35-year-old woman has been arrested for murder in connection to the September 10, 2023 shooting death of Anthony Dewain Word on Dewey Heights Road, according to Lt. Joni Money of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
“On that day, deputies were alerted to shots being fired in the area of Dewey Heights Road in Northeast Jefferson County around 3 p.m.,” Money said.
When deputies arrived, they discovered the body of 51-year-old Anthony Dewain Word. Word had been shot to death by an unknown suspect who fled the scene.
“After a detailed investigation, detectives were able to establish a suspect in the death,” Money said. “Daysha Nicole Bennett, a 35-year-old acquaintance of the victim, was taken into custody and placed into the Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham on the charge of intentional murder. Her charge currently has no bond.”
