From Tribune staff reports
BIRMINGHAM –Miss Alabama week kicked off on Sunday and it didn’t take long for ladies with Trussville ties to jump to the forefront of the competition when three of the seven Catherine Crosby Long Community Service Award finalists all had links to the city.
Elisabeth Chramer, a 2009 graduate of Hewitt-Trussville High School, earned one of the finalist spots with her platform of Building Partnerships through Habitat for Humanity.
Trussville’s Katie Malone also made the top seven for her work with the Ronald McDonald House charity. Malone, a Hewitt-Trussville and University of Alabama grad, is also the daily host of Today’s Top 3 for The Trussville Tribune.
Malone was the first runner-up in the 2014 Miss Alabama pageant.
The third top seven finalist with local ties is Shea Summerlin, the current Miss Trussville.
Summerlin, a Montgomery native, earned her community service finalist recognition through her work with All In for Alzheimer’s, which is focused on ending Alzheimer’s disease.
The winner of the 2015 Catherine Crosby Long Community Service Award will be announced at a luncheon on Saturday at the Vestavia Hills Country Club.
