MONTGOMERY – The Alabama State Association of Parliamentarians (ASAP) elected new officers at the Alabama Baptist Convention Building in Montgomery, and Trussville’s Barbara Luckett has been named its new president.
Luckett, an attorney, was joined by Vice President Carl Flemons, Vice President Rena Ramsey, secretary Mary Stojak, treasurer Mary Gaines and parliamentarian Emma Faulk at a special installment ceremony in March.
Each new officer will speak to community and professional organizations on parliamentary procedure topics. They also will be expected to provide humanitarian services to their communities.
Members of the ASAP are often called upon to provide practical advice on how to cope with the expected sources of conflict and mediate disputes among members of various organizations.
The ASAP is a constituent of the National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP), which is the largest association of parliamentarians in the country.
These five units make up the association: Central Alabama in Leeds, Intra-State in Hoover, North Alabama in Huntsville, Grace Browning in Birmingham and the Capital City in Montgomery.
As it promotes the study of parliamentary procedure and the educational programs of NAP, the association is organized primarily for educational purposes.
Each unit meets to study parliamentary procedure using Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised 11th edition. Meetings are open to the public and meeting schedules are located on the Alabama page of the NAP website.
