Saturday, a single-vehicle wreck on Interstate-65 claimed the life of Lauren Elizabeth Shirah, 20, who was killed when the 2006 Pontiac G6, in which she was a passenger in, left the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
Shirah, of Montevallo, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was ejected from the vehicle and later pronounced dead at the UAB hospital, according to ALEA.
The driver of the vehicle, Megan Hall, 20, was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries.
The wreck occurred at 10:15 a.m. on I-65 at the 222 mile marker in Chilton County, five miles north of Jemison.
