BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred Thursday in the 1700 block of 36th Street North.
Around 9:30 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to the above location on a person down. Upon arrival, officers found the victim lying on the ground near the railroad tracks, suffering from what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds to the body. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.
Detectives found the victim was discovered by somebody that was walking the railroad tracks. Neighbors reported hearing gunshots outside between 6 and 8:30 a.m.
“Based on what has been processed so far, this does not appear to be a random shooting,” said Lt Sean Edwards. “Detectives must now begin the challenging task of identifying and locating the shooter.”
