CENTER POINT — Just before 5 p.m. Monday evening Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of shots being fired into a car at 20th Street and 3rd Avenue NE.
It was reported that a black male had fired shots into a car at that location and fled on foot. A description of the shooter was broadcast to responding deputies., and a deputy in the area located the suspect in the parking lot of some nearby apartments. Upon seeing the deputy, the suspect laid down and surrendered. He was found in possession of a handgun. The suspect admitted to the deputy that he had shot the car.
The suspect, a 21-year-old male, was taken into custody and is being questioned by detectives.
One of the occupants of the car suffered minor injuries from flying glass, but no one else was hurt.
The investigation is ongoing. Updates will be provided as they become available.
