BLOUNT COUNTY — Two men from Blount County have been convicted and sentenced for separate child sex crimes, announced Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey.
James Elliot, 31, of Horton was sentenced to 150 months for child pornography. He entered guilty please for two counts of dissemination of child pornography after he was arrested in 2015.
Elliot was investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation along with the CyberCrime Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Electronic Crimes Task Force, according to Casey. An undercover operation into Elliot’s IP address revealed pornography of children under 12 years of age.
Elliot will be required to register as a sex offender after his sentence expires.
Jason Horton, 24, of Warrior was sentenced to 20 years for sodomy and sexual abuse of a child under 12 years old. The case was investigated by the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, with help from the Blount County Children’s Center and Children’s Hospital of Alabama’s Children’s Intervention and Prevention Services.
Horton will also be required to register as a sex offender when his sentence expires.
“This case developed because a parent was taking the time to review her child’s electronic device and what she found led her child to reveal this abuse,” Casey said. “We were able to achieve a just sentence without having to put the child victim through a trial.”
