ST. CLAIR COUNTY — Mike Howard was the winner in his bid for St. Clair County Superintendent against opponent Greg Cobb in last night’s statewide primary elections. Billy J. Murray won the primary for the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office.
“I’m excited about the next chapter in my life and for our school system,” Howard wrote on his campaign’s Facebook page. “I will not take office until January, so I encourage everyone to support Mrs. Seals for the remainder of her term, because I will. She is still my Superintendent and I will continue to give her respect and admiration. I am asking that you do the same.”
Both candidates ran as Republicans and did not have Democratic opponents. Howard won the election against Cobb with 7,446 votes (67.20% ) while Cobb’s results were 3,634 (32.80%), according to the St. Clair County website.
Murray ran against Roy Mullins and won with 9,972 votes (74.15%) while Mullins’ votes totaled 3,477 (25.85%). Murry has served as assistant sheriff at the department with current sheriff, Terry Surles, who did not run for reelection.
