A Center Point man is in custody after authorities said he slapped his ex-girlfriend in the Pinson Waffle House parking lot and fired a shot at an employee.
Wynston Ellis, 21, is charged with carrying a pistol without a license, public intoxication and two counts of third-degree domestic violence. He was in Jefferson County Jail with his bond set at $18,500.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Randy Christian said Ellis had been at the Waffle House in the 4600 block of Center Point Road on Wednesday arguing with his ex-girlfriend
. During the argument, he slapped her in the face, Christian said.
A male employee went outside to ask Ellis to leave the property, and Ellis pointed a pistol at him and fired one shot, Christian said. The bullet missed and Ellis got in a car with another man and woman and left the parking lot.
Christian said that as they were driving away, Ellis allegedly fired one more shot into the air. A description of his vehicle was broadcast to other responding units, and he was stopped on Center Point Road at Westchester Drive.
Ellis was a passenger in the car, where a handgun was found. The others in the car were not charged.
The case remains under investigation, and Christian said attempted murder and menacing charges are being screened.
