ORLANDO — A central Florida lawyer is planning on having some fun when Alabama takes on Louisville this Saturday. No, he isn’t planning on tailgating, grilling out, drinking beer, or tossing bean bags at small holes in moderately sloping planes of wood. Chad Barr, Knights fan extraordinaire, is taking trolling to a whole other level. The UCF alumnus plans on having a banner fly over the Camping World Stadium just before the game; a banner which will proclaim: “UCF ’17 CO-NAT’L CHAMPS 13-0 CHADBARRLAW”
The not so subtle message will serve as a reminder that, at least according the NCAA’s inclusion of the Colley-Matrix in their record book, the Knights finished their season in a number one spot right alongside Alabama. It also serves as a specific jab at ‘Bama fans as UCF defeated the only team, Auburn, to best Alabama during the 2017 season.
Most Alabama fans, however, are having none of it. Social media is full of accounts that are quick to point out that the UCF is not in a Power Five conference, had a far less demanding schedule, would lose to Alabama in 99 matches out of 100, is currently ranked 21 in the nation -whereas Alabama is number one, the Auburn team that showed up to the Peach Bowl was a mere shadow of the one that played in the Iron Bowl, and that it is a little hard to be the national champions when you didn’t play in the national championship game. One commenter, on Barr’s Twitter page, even said, “Knock yourself out. Yawn. As an Alabama alum I know we have 5 of those in the last 9 years…”
The banner will fly for approximately three hours, but will have to come down at least one hour before kick-off.
