TRUSSVILLE — During an annual Secretaries Conference with the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) on Dec. 5 at the Wynfrey Hotel , Trussville City Schools Board Secretary, Sandra Vernon, was recognized as the CLAS 2018 Secretary of the Year for District 7.
The conference provides professional learning for Alabama’s school secretaries and bookkeepers.
Vernon was also recognized at the Monday, Dec. 10, Trussville City Board of Education meeting where her colleagues congratulated her success and contribution to the TCS and school board.
“I am very proud of her and was so pleased to see that she was awarded this honor,” said TCS Superintendent Dr. Pattie Neill.
“I have worked with Sandra Vernon for 10 years,” board member Bill Roberts said. “I want to say that she is remarkable. I saw her work with our previous superintendent. She was very loyal, professional and when Dr. Neill became our superintendent, Sandra never missed a beat. From day one, she was just as loyal, professional and protective. Sandra, I thank you for all that you have done.”
“Thank you, it is a pleasure to come to work each day,” Vernon said.
According to the CLAS website, nominations for the first annual Secretary of the Year award were submitted by CLAS members in each State Board of Education District. Each finalist was held in high regard by her employer as well as by her co-workers, and community. Other Secretary of the Year finalists include Jamie Paul, Baldwin County; Toni Jones, Tallassee City; Elizabeth Fairley-Bromley, Jefferson County; Pearl Adams, Marengo County; and Debbie Fanning, Madison County.
“Each of these secretaries does an outstanding job and deserves the recognition through this award,” said CLAS member Susie Ellison.
About the Award: This is the first year the Secretary of the Year award has been given, which is awarded to one Alabama school secretary or administrative assistant who supports the vision, mission, goals and beliefs of the school system; promotes goodwill among co-workers; provides excellent customer service, demonstrates a good work ethic; performs work duties as assigned in an exemplary manner, and participates in professional learning in order to improve work knowledge and skills. The award was given at the 26th annual Secretaries Conference Luncheon held each December.
