LEEDS — The Wintzell’s Oyster House in Leeds is opening soon.
Donald Jones, with Hallmark Hospitality, said the restaurant could open its doors before the end of March. The location at 1770 Ashville Road still has to undergo inspections and food approval.
Jones said his group is excited to serve delicious food to the area. He said when picking a location, he was inspired by hockey legend Wayne Gretzky’s philosophy, “A good hockey player plays where the puck is. A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be.”
“Leeds is where it’s going to be,” Jones said.
When it comes to inspiration, Wintzell’s is decked out with signs containing witty quotes. This tradition started back in 1938 when J.O. Wintzell opened his first restaurant. Another portion of the restaurant is dedicated to the history of Leeds. You can find old photos and historic images from the city’s railroad depot.
On the menu, guests can choose from the oyster bar or try other types of seafood, including bacon-wrapped shrimp. There are also options for those who don’t like seafood. Guests can choose from steak, chicken or burgers.
Wintzell’s in Leeds has a large meeting room that can be reserved for groups and organizations. The room can be converted to host large banquets or smaller meetings.
This will be the 10th Wintzell’s Oyster House to open in Alabama. There is also a location in Fultondale.
