BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department confirmed a man involved in a deadly incident in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 19, 2019, was from Center Point.
Jerand Deon Jackson, 40, was the driver of a Chevrolet Camaro that hit a motorcyclist around 3:54 a.m. Detectives said it happened in the 1000 block of Third Avenue North. Another vehicle pulled up and two people got out and walked to the Camaro. Police believe the two then assaulted Jackson, stole the car and left Jackson in the roadway. That’s when an off-duty Birmingham Police officer, driving in the area, hit Jackson.
Jackson was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the motorcycle was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment.
The Camaro was later found burned in the 300 block of 66th Street in Fairfield.
