According to BhamWiki.com, on this day in history Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant ended his coaching career with 323 wins after a Liberty Bowl victory  over Illinois in 1982.

In 1976, Elvis Presley performed his one and only concert in Birmingham. The following year, in 1977, the rock band KISS was on stage at the BJCC.

The Country Boy Eddie show aired on WBRC for the last time in 1995. Howard College, which later became Samford University, was founded in Marion in 1841.
