Huskies climb to No. 5 in final baseball poll

TRUSSVILLE — The Hewitt-Trussville varsity baseball team is ranked the highest it has been all season as the playoffs begin Friday.

The Huskies are ranked No. 5 in Class 6A in this week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association rankings. The top four teams, in order, are Pelham, Thompson, Hoover and Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa. The rest of the top 10 includes Huntsville, Spain Park, Alma Bryant, Oxford and Northview.

Hewitt-Trussville was No. 6 last week.

Hewitt-Trussville hosts No. 17 Vestavia Hills in the first round of the playoffs Friday.

In Class 5A, Pinson Valley was fourth in the “others nominated” category, making the Indians No. 14.

The Hewitt-Trussville varsity softball team is ranked No. 13 in Class 6A this week.
