PINSON — Hewitt-Trussville watched a 15-point halftime advantage disappear, but made shots late to cruise past Pinson Valley 48-43 to remain unbeaten on Thursday night.
The Lady Huskies shot 42 percent from behind the arc to take a comfortable lead at halftime. Gabby Hill made three of her six deep balls early.
But as hot as Hewitt-Trussville (3-0) was through the first 16 minutes of play, it was equally as sloppy in the third. A bevy of turnovers and missed opportunities left the door open for the Lady Indians, who took advantage by trimming the deficit to five going into the fourth.
“In the second half I think they got a little winded and struggled, but I’m just so proud of them for coming to the end and winning on the road,” said Hewitt-Trussville head coach Tonya Hunter.
Pinson Valley (0-1) got to within one possession, but the visitors got hot enough in the closing minutes to hold off their hosts. The Lady Huskies made five of their final seven shots.
Kimberly Duffett was responsible for three of those makes. She scored 10 points, all coming in the second half, and added six rebounds. Point guard Cayla Dillard mirrored those numbers with an additional three steals.
