PINSON – Pinson Valley and Clay-Chalkville basketball teams wrapped up their regular season slates Monday night. Here is how they fared:
BOYS
Pinson Valley 62, Gardendale 60: Down a point with 4.8 seconds to play, Cornell Hale nailed a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Indians to the victory. That was one of two buzzer-beaters for Hale on the night, as he also ended the first quarter with a 3-pointer that banked in, which also gave his team a two-point edge. Hale scored over half of his team’s 27 points in the first half, with 14. He finished the game with 21 points. Donevan Waldrop also had a big night, scoring 20 points, and adding eight rebounds and five assists.
Clay-Chalkville 72, Walker 61: With senior point guard Hasan Abdullah missing the game due to injury, the Cougars were still able to knock off Walker. Three seniors scored in double figures for Clay-Chalkville, as Edward Leggett led the team with 17 points. Drewsean Heller followed suit with 13 points, while Kenneth Cotton contributed 10 points. In Jeremy Monceaux’s first season at the helm, his team finishes the regular season with a record of 22-8.
Both teams will play in the Class 6A, Area 12 tournament this week, to be played at Clay-Chalkville. Pinson Valley will face off against Center Point on Thursday at 6 p.m., with the winner advancing to play Clay-Chalkville on Saturday at 2 p.m.
GIRLS
Gardendale 59, Pinson Valley 34: The second quarter was too much to overcome for the Lady Indians, as they only managed to score four points, and trailed by 17 at halftime.
The Lady Indians will face Clay-Chalkville in the Class 6A, Area 12 tournament Wednesday at 6 p.m. The winner will play tournament host Center Point in the championship game Friday at 6 p.m.
