BIRMINGHAM — Just before 5 a.m. Thursday morning, Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a single vehicle accident at the intersection of Warrior-Jasper Road and U.S. 78.
A passerby reported seeing a vehicle off the roadway on a ravine with the lights still on. No other vehicles were involved, according to the report.
Deputies arrived and found a male victim in the driver seat. No one else was in the car. The driver was pronounced dead on the scene.
The victim has been identified as a 27-year-old Louisiana man. His name is being withheld pending notification of family.
The initial investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed along Warrior-Jasper Road when the driver failed to stop at the intersection. The car crossed the traffic lanes and left the road way before going airborne and landing in a ditch.
