Hewitt-Trussville 51, Homewood 50
Chris Lewis delivered the go-ahead free throw with 2.8 seconds remaining for a, 51-50, road win against Homewood.
The game stayed close throughout. The first two quarters ended in ties (18-all after the first, and 32-all at the break) before Homewood took a 41-40 lead into the final eight minutes of play.
The Huskies outscored their hosts, 11-9, in the final frame to take home a win. Luke Touiliatos, who scored 18 points for the Patriots, missed a 3-ball at the horn.
Damon Harper made the difference for Hewitt-Trussville. He sank six 3-pointers to lead all scorers with 20 points. His final triple came in the closing moments to knot the game at 50. Lewis did his work from the paint, finishing with 10 points, including the game-winner.
McAdory 66, Pinson Valley 64
This one needed extra time. A tightly contested four quarters ended with a 57-57 deadlock.
In the first overtime, McAdory finally claimed a 66-64 win in non-area action. Pinson Valley is now off until after Christmas. They will compete in the WQSB Holiday Tournament at Albertville High School starting on Dec. 26.
According to the school’s Twitter page, Trey Minnifield led the Indians with 18 points. Duncan Merriweather pitched in with 16 and Cornell Hale added another 12.
Gadsden City 60, Clay-Chalkville 27
Gadsden City, Class 7A’s No. 3 team, ran away with a Friday night contest against Class 6A Clay-Chalkville. The Cougars fell on the road, 60-27.
According to the team’s Twitter page, MJ Embree led coach Jeremy Monceaux’s team with 10 points, but got very little help on a forgettable night.
