BIRMINGHAM – A man has barricaded himself in a house on Mims Avenue after assaulting a firefighter, according to al.com.
The suspect has been identified as 44-year-old Willie Lee Cooks. The assault took place in May of this year, and Cooks has six prior felony convictions. Authorities say he’s known to be armed.
Four people are allegedly in the home with Cooks, none of which are children. At this time it’s unclear if they are being held against their will.
U.S. Marshals, Birmingham Police and Jefferson County Police are responding to the scene. The power in the home has been disconnected in the hopes he will come out.
A daycare across from the house has been evacuated.
