JEFFERSON COUNTY — A Hoover area man died after falling from a third-floor balcony at a retirement center on Tuesday afternoon.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Terry Hugh Kemp, 69, of the Hoover area. Kemp was a resident of the Rocky Ridge Retirement Center, which is where the incident occurred.
Kemp was standing on the third-floor balcony and speaking with an individual on the ground floor, said Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates. Yates said that, according to a witness, at around 1:50 p.m., Kemp leaned forward and fell but was able to catch himself and hold on for a time before he lost his grip.
Kemp was transported to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:37 p.m., according to Yates.
