CLAY — CCHS student-athlete Khalil Bell won the Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year award for the state of Alabama and the Clay City Council honored him with a proclamation on Tuesday, April 23.
The proclamation states, “Whereas Khalil Bell is a lifelong resident of the City of Clay; and…a student athlete at Clay Chalkville High School who earned a baseball scholarship to Bishop State Community College; and whereas Khalil Bell has been recognized with two Most Outstanding Student Awards (2015-2016 and 2016-2017) and the Cougar Character Award (2016-2017) at Clay Chalkville High School; and whereas Khalil Bell is an excellent student, member of National Honor Society, Clay Chalkville High School Ambassador, Heritage Panel member, and a Senior Class Officer; and…has been described as “a fantastic young man and a great role model for young people to look up to,”; and…has been involved with the Boys and Girls Club for nine years, as an attendee, counselor, and coordinator; and…has been named The Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year for the state of Alabama;
“Now therefore be it proclaimed by the City Council of the City of Clay, Alabama that we acknowledge and applaud the volunteerism, dedication, and sense of service consistently displayed by Khalil Bell.”
Prior to winning the state competition, Bell also won the regional competition for Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year. He will now move on to compete in the southeast regional competition in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 13. If he wins the southeast regional competition, he will then compete in Washington D.C. for the National Youth of the Year title.
“I just want to thank the city of Clay for always supporting us at the Boys and Girls Club and for always being there, and for them continuing to be there,” Bell said. “Thank you.”
