BIRMINGHAM — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating after an officer-involved shooting in Birmingham on Sunday, June 9, 2019.
The incident happened at 7:49 p.m. when officers with the west precinct were called to investigate a report of a robbery at Family Dollar at 1305 Tuscaloosa Avenue SW.
Police said when officers arrived, they were told the robber had fled the scene. Officers located a person matching the description of the suspect in the 1300 block of McMillon Avenue SW. The officer and the suspect became involved in a physical altercation before the officer discharged his weapon, striking the suspect, according to investigators.
The suspect was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment. The officer was not hurt.
Detectives recovered evidence believed to be involved in the robbery at Family Dollar from the scene of the shooting.
