A single car wreck on I-59 at the North Chalkville Road exit in Trussville took the life of one person, but at least five people survived, according to witness reports.
Jefferson County Coroner’s Office says the deceased victim is Arnoldo Andre Gonzalez, age 40.
“The suburban just lost control and flipped several times across the median into oncoming traffic,” said Nicki Goodwin, who witnessed the accident. “Thankfully, there were no other cars involved. We barely missed being hit
. Three kids and three adults (were) in the car and one child was thrown through the back window, but was walking around at the scene.”
Chief Russell Ledbetter of Trussville Fire and Rescue has confirmed with The Tribune that there was one fatality in the single car accident. Ledbetter said that officials from the Jefferson County Coroner’s office were called to the scene.
I-59 was closed until rescue and law enforcement personnel completed their work. The highway has since been reopened.
The Alabama State Trooper’s office in Birmingham reported that they were not working the accident, but Trussville police were on the scene along with Trussville Fire and Rescue.
