Another possible site for a future elementary school in Trussville has emerged.
Trussville Mayor Gene Melton said at last week’s Trussville City Board of Education work session that acreage near the Pop Stone Circle area on the south side of the city could be a viable location for a school.
“This appears to be a very good site for a location,” Melton said.
The city does not own the property, which is in a wooded area not visible from South Chalkville Road, and there have been no offers or negotiations for the property, something Melton wanted the community to know, he said.
Melton said he would not approach the property owner unless the school board chooses to consider the area. The area would also provide green space for the city, something the city does not have much of on the south side of Trussville, Melton said. He also said a possible issue with the property is that it would need its own sewer system.
School board member Sid McNeal said the area near Pop Stone Circle is “highly attractive.”
Other areas being considered for a future elementary school include the area near the Magnolia Place neighborhood, and the old Hewitt-Trussville middle and high school on Parkway Drive.
The board of education will meet next Wednesday in a retreat from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the board room at the Central Office
. The future elementary school is expected to be discussed at the retreat.
