No one participating in Monday’s Boston Marathon are believed to be from the local area, according to Birmingham Track Club officials.
Alex Morrow, who handles marketing and social media for the track club, said he wasn’t “for sure” of where all the participants are from, since some claim Birmingham despite possibly living in cities such as Calera, Mountain Brook and Trussville.
Morrow said all Birmingham Track Club members have been accounted for and are OK.
“We dodged a bullet,” Morrow said Tuesday. “It’s unfortunate for the folks that were impacted, but we believe we’re OK.”
Birmingham Track Club Social Chair Heather Milam said Tuesday that there could be some participants from the Trussville, Clay and Pinson areas, but she wasn’t totally sure. She said a lot of the participants were from Birmingham, Homewood, Mountain Brook and Hoover areas

“The Birmingham Track Club and all its members send thoughts and prayers to every racer, spectator, volunteer and public service official participating in the 2013 Boston Marathon,” the track club said in a statement on its website. “We continue to monitor the situation as many of our members are in Boston and are contacting family and loved ones to confirm their safety.”
Morrow was not in Boston on Monday, but he said he talked with some people right as the two bombs exploded. He said some people he knew were within a quarter of a mile from the finish line.
“Thankfully, no one was hurt, at least from us,” he said.
Morrow said the event is “tragic” and “unfortunate.”
There were 112 Alabamians listed as participants in the Boston Marathon, including 30 as listed from Birmingham.
Two bombs exploded near the finish line of Monday’s Boston Marathon, killing three people and injuring more than 170. President Barack Obama on Tuesday morning called the bombings “an act of terror.”
