Hewitt-Trussville head basketball coach Zane Arnold has resigned after one season, according to Trussville City Schools Athletics Director Karen Johns.
Arnold resigned Friday, she said.
Arnold didn’t immediately return a message seeking comment Tuesday.
Hewitt-Trussville posted a 15-16 record this season, and went 4-2 in Class 6A, Area 12. The Huskies fell to Carver-Birmingham in the first round of the area tournament.
“He felt like there are other opportunities he can pursue, and that’s what he’s going to do,” Johns said
.
Junior guard Jarvis Calhoun, a UAB commitment, said Arnold told the team of his resignation Monday.

“As a team, we are going to miss coach Arnold because he has taught us life lessons and about basketball, but we just have to move on from it and not let this get us down,” Calhoun said in a text message.
Johns said she is “actively engaged” in pursuing a new head basketball coach. There is no timetable for finding Arnold’s replacement.
Arnold was approved as the Hewitt-Trussville boys’ basketball coach last April. Arnold, 44, spent the previous seven seasons at Parkway Christian Academy. He led the Wildcats to five regional finals, three Class 1A Final Fours and the 2009 state championship game, which they lost to Loachapoka.
Arnold played collegiately at Auburn from 1987-1991.
