Pinson Valley girls’ golfer Abby Vinson signed a scholarship last week to play collegiately at Point University in Georgia.
Vinson was offered a scholarship in early April and committed April 8. It was her only scholarship offer.
“I felt like that’s where God wanted me,” said Vinson, noting that she likes the campus and coaches.
Vinson plans to study sports management, hoping to one day earn a job with the Atlanta Braves.
Vinson has placed second individually at the Jefferson County Tournament her sophomore, junior and senior years
. Pinson Valley won the tournament as a team her freshman year.
Vinson’s career-best round is a 77 at Highland Park Golf Course in Birmingham, a day in which she also made a hole-in-one on the par-three 14th hole.
Vinson’s coaches at Pinson Valley have been Bobby Winnett and Kevin O’Rear.
Her freshman year, Vinson was set to play softball, but a letter from golf coach Winnett asking her to play golf changed her mind.
“I fell in love with it,” Vinson said. “I can’t get enough.”
