This year’s Fourth of July highway safety enforcement period began at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday and runs through midnight Sunday.
During that time, all available state troopers will work additional shifts in an effort to prevent crashes, injuries and fatalities on Alabama roadways.
People discharging fireworks must not set them within 600 feet of any enclosed building, shoot them from a vehicle or toward people. Children 15 and younger should be supervised and fireworks should be used in a clear, open area outdoors and away from flammables and combustibles.
Authorities say to not consume alcohol while handling fireworks, avoid driving or boating while under the influence of alcohol and buckle up on the road or on the water.
Any suspicious activity may be reported to the Alabama Fusion Center’s tip line at 866-229-6220.
