Terry Ponder of Ponder Properties announced Thursday that Tortugas Cafe, which specializes in homemade Chicago style pizza, has signed a lease for the former Neighborhood Sports Grille location on U.S. Highway 11 in Trussville.
Tortugas Cafe is on Highway 280, which is the concept used in Trussville.
According to the company’s website, Tortugas was selected as “Birmingham’s Best Pizza” by City Scene, winner of Turner South’s The Blue Ribbon Show Best Pizza (2004), and is listed as “100 Dishes to eat before you die” by the Alabama Tourism Department.
Ponder Properties represented the California landlord and Tortugas in the transaction.
Ponder Properties is a commercial real estate firm specializing in leasing, land and property development, as well as a broker for restaurant sales and leasing in the Birmingham area.
Tortugas owner Paul Gagliano did not immediately return calls seeking comment. The story will be updated as more information becomes available.
