Trussville’s first National Night Out will be Aug. 6 at the Target parking lot on U.S. Highway 11.
The event will be from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The event will feature ID kits for children, self-defense demonstrations, tours of the mobile smokehouse and free food.
The Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce partnered with the Trussville Police Department, Trussville Fire Department, Trussville Rotary Club, Target and Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens to promote the event.
National Night Out is a community safety awareness program.
The Trussville City Council, which approved a proclamation earlier this month recognizing Aug. 6 as National Night Out in Trussville, is encouraging citizen participation to heighten awareness and enhance community relations.
According to the proclamation, the National Association of Town Watch is dedicated to developing and promoting crime prevention programs by having communities partner neighborhood watch groups, law enforcement, crime prevention associations, businesses, civic groups and individuals with a common goal of developing safer communities and keeping crime watch volunteers informed, interested, involved and motivated.
