The Center Point Fire District and the city of Clay will kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Cosby Lake Park on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
The afternoon will begin with a motorcade escorted by the “pink” Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office car followed by the Dixie Divas RC and the Red Knights Motorcycle Club. Guest speakers for the afternoon will include Sheriff Mike Hale, Fire Chief Donnie West and Dr. Andres Forero.
Attendees will enjoy live music from the Jeff Otwell Band, children’s entertainment, a car show, popcorn, hot dogs and beverages. Center Point Fire/Rescue will also have its annual specialty designed “Pink Ribbon Project” T-shirts for sale for $15, of which proceeds will benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama.
“This is a great way for everyone to come together and unite in support of an important cause that has affected many of our community members and our firemen’s personal lives,” West said. “We are proud to partner with the BCRFA and provide important research funding for the third year in a row. Our efforts to aid in their mission will continue throughout the month of October.”
Admission is free to the public with donations accepted for food and beverage.
“The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama is deeply grateful for these firemen and the city leaders who dedicate so much of their time to aid in our mission to fund breast cancer research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center,” said Kate Kiefer, a BCRFA board member. “Center Point has been involved with our annual fire department shirt sales since 2010. These men and women put their lives on the line to save others each and every day. Today they are continuing their service by providing hope for a growing number of people affected by breast cancer. That is true heroism.”

Proceeds from the event benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama, which has donated nearly $4 million toward the nationally recognized breast cancer research at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.
