A rotten tree fell toward Clay Public Library last week, landing on a power transformer.
Clay City Councilman Kevin Small said had Public Works Superintendent Josh Isbell not come to the scene quickly, “the library could have burned down.”
Other trees were inspected, and it was determined all had been eaten out by termites.
“You can see where they have hollowed out the trunks,” Small said.
The trees at the library have since been removed.
An outdoor reading room area is also coming for the library as part of a grant the city received several years ago. Construction could begin next week.
